How to Join The Church
The process of becoming a member of First United Methodist Church of Denham Springs is simple. However, being a part of any Christian church involves a commitment to serve Jesus Christ and grow as disciples. It is both our mission and joy to help persons along that journey.
Persons who become members of any United Methodist Church agree to support the church with their prayers, their presence, their gifts, their service, and their witness.
If you would like to join with others for an informal time of introductions and information about our congregation, we periodically host “Coffee With Our Pastors.” Check our Events calendar for dates and times.
Types of Membership
If you have not been baptized and would like to confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, one of our pastors will be glad to discuss this decision with you. If you have been baptized but have never held membership in the Church, you may be confirmed as a full member, professing your faith in Jesus Christ.
From Another United Methodist Church
Simply let a pastor know of your interest in transferring your membership from another congregation of the United Methodist Church. It is not necessary for you to notify your former church. We will handle the details of the transfer for you.
By Transfer From Another Christian Denomination
You will be asked to take the one vow taken by all members of the United Methodist Church: “Will you be loyal to the United Methodist Church and uphold it with your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness?”
What if I’m not a Methodist?
Several of the most active people at First Methodist are not members, and some are not even Methodists. Non-members are welcome to participate in all activities. Speak to one of the pastors about what it means to be a Methodist, and about becoming a member.
Do I have to give a certain amount of money to the church?
You are always welcome to worship with us and participate regardless of whether you contribute money. When we commit to become members of the Methodist church, we promise to “uphold this church with our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.”
How those vows are carried out is between each member and the Lord. We encourage our members to consider making a commitment (a “pledge”) to contribute some amount, on a regular basis, as an act of worship and in response to all God has done for us.
If you desire to become a member of First Methodist, we invite you to respond by coming forward during the closing hymn of one of our worship services. Our pastor will meet you and welcome you into the fellowship of First United Methodist Church of Denham Springs.
